Acknowledgement
Firstly, I
would like to express my sincere gratitude to my advisor Dr. Aris Ignacio for
the continuous support of my study and related research, for his patience,
motivation, and immense knowledge. His guidance helped me in all the time of
research and writing of this thesis. I could not have imagined having a better
advisor and mentor for my study.
My sincere
thanks also goes to Sir Rielann Velasquez and Sir Herbert Cipriano and other
employees who provided me an opportunity to join their team as intern, and who
gave me knowledge on their facilities.
I also thank
other fellow interns for the making this experience more enjoyable. This
internship was more fun with you guys.
Last but not
the least, I would like to thank my family: my parents and to my brothers and
sister for supporting me spiritually
Introduction
Firstly I
chose this course because I already had an interest in computers. I enjoyed my
first computer classes in grade school and as I progressed I got more and more
into the technical side of the subject. I wanted to know more about the
hardware and later on the software. The IT field is always changing and there
are always new technologies that are being introduced and old technologies that
are being phased out.
Not only
does it encompass a multitude of callings, like Computer Programmer, Network
System Administrator and Web Developer, it also keeps you from being locked up
in a single niche market. Most of these professions within the IT sector are
required in many fields. IT personnel are required in the military, hospitals,
schools, law firms, banks and just about any major company
As you can
see this is a field that is high in demand, with many job and learning
opportunities, yet it still has some of the highest paying career options
available today. If you have the motivation and determination to become one of
the best in what you do you will have a lot of job opportunities and a whole
bunch of fields that require the skill sets you have acquired to choose from.
So what I'm
trying to say is that I chose IT because it promises a lot of business opportunities
and is available all across the world. This is also an opportunity for me to go
overseas.
Work of task
expectations
Here at
Xerox I expected to just do mostly paper work. I didn't read much about what
their business is or what they do exactly. I was in fact really nervous when I
was just expecting to submit my resume and paperwork for it, I later found out
that the interview was on the same day so I was shockingly unprepared. But
fortunately I passed the interview and was accepted. Sir Allen informed me that
there would be manual work which includes moving a lot of hardware. There would
also be a lot of interacting with other people and assisting them with problems
on their workstations. He also said that we will not just be focusing on
desktops there would also be networking and server work.

Problems
Encountered while Performing the Task and How it was Solved
One of the
problems we had was when one of the projectors couldn't connect to the laptops.
Even granting the user special privileges did nothing.
Another
problem was fairly basic. Paper jam in a printer. We had to dismantle it and go
really deep into the machine to find the rest of the paper and clean it up.
One program
required in the business process was not installing properly and it took us at
least 2 days to solve. It involved having the user log in their credentials and
using administration credentials to install the program properly.
One funny
problem was moving 3 stations to a new location. So we dismantled the hardware
and started moving it to the new stations, after we get back to the 7th floor our
supervisor found out we moved it to the wrong place so we went back and put it
back there again. The next day he got a call and said that we had not moved the
pc's to the right stations so we moved it AGAIN. So there were communication
errors there.
One thing I
learned is never ever admit that you don't know the solution to a problem. If
ever you don't know it just say "I'll come back and I will research on the
problem you're having." Saying you don't know it is unprofessional and
would make you look stupid. Being honest is important so find the solution no
matter what it takes. Be patient with some people because some will be
frustrated with their problem and don't be disrespectful. If they do become
disrespectful just take the high road and don't answer back at them. You can
report them if ever they cross the line at some point.
Relevance of
the chosen training
I think the
things I learned from the work place were very great because I wanted to learn
about software as well. I already know a lot about the hardware so going to the
software side was really a good experience for me. I learned how to
troubleshoot programs and what processes to take when trying to solve problems
with other programs.
Over all
Experience
Over all I
really loved the time I spent in Xerox. Mostly because I met a lot of new
people that became close friends. And I enjoyed it too because majority of the
employees are really fun to work with. Not all that serious they seek enjoyment
out of their work as well.
